How should Black Folks Vote Come November, Pt 2

In my last post I made the argument that if Obama dosen't win the Democratic nomination we shouldn't vote in November.  We should instead vote for someone like Nader or better yet Cynnthia McKinney.  This make either of these candidates a viable third party candidate next election cycle and would send a strong message to the Dumbocrats that you can't take us for granted anymore.

Well, it looks like Black folks are beginning to do just that. Check out this latest poll.

How Should Blacks Folk Vote Come November Pt I?

I was thinking about this last night while watching the coverage of the Mississippi returns. They did their usually break down of exit polls, and then the topic of race baiting came up. We all know that Hillary, Bill, and a lot of people in her campaign have played this game. Fine. That's polictics. It's down and dirty stuff. The Clintons are trying to make Obama the black candidate, and take the white male vote. If they can do that they may have a shot against him. However, that's just the set-up to what I really want to talk to about.

Let's say Hillary gets the nod. It's her vs. McCain in the fall. The dumbocrats (to borrow a phrase from the Field-Negro), think that blacks vote will forgive Hillary and vote democrat in the fall. That's what we've always done. They know we can't stand rethuglicans (This is also another Field term), and wont vote for them. The question I have is should we vote at all?

Hillary has played the same race baiting politics that the rethuglicans have. The Dumbocrats have shown that they will not stand up to Bush or the rethuglicans in congress. So, why should we expect things to change that much under Hillary? She is a part of the Machine. A very intergral part of the machine.

We have heard for a long time that the dumbocrats just take our votes for granted. They do. We, as a people, should not just give them our vote. However, we don't have a lot of options. Like I said, unless your Larry Elder, Armstrong Williams, or somebody like that we're are not going to vote for a rethuglican. With all of that said I'm leaning toward the idea we shouldn't vote at all.

Yeah, that's right. I'm serious leaning toward the fact we shouldn't vote at all. Hillary can't win the whitehouse without us. McCain can. I know not voting will give the election to McCain, but honestly does it matter? Has democrats really done a lot for Black folks? The only time they talk about our needs is right before the election. Then they almost never follow through.

If Obama doesn't get the nod we should stay home. We should send a clear signal to the dumbocrats, that we will not take politics as usual, and you will listen to us. Yeah, I know that means 4 more years of Bush style politics. However, like I said before, shit doesn't change for black folks no matter who is in office. Do you really think with all of the race baiting that Hillary will be a friend to the negro? How does that work? "I was just calling you guys niggers in front of my white friends so they think I'm one of you. As soon as I get in I'll take care of you guys. Promise"

What Should Obama do?

As I watch the democratic primaries unfold, and the Clinton/McCain attack machines rev up I have a serious question for Obama. Can he or will he fight back? Will he take the high road like Kerry and Gore or will he come out swinging? The media has already started to get behind Hillary. The right-wing attack machine has already started to tear down Obama.

I think he will try to counter everything they say and turn it back on them. When Hillary ran that 3 o’clock ad Obama had a response in less that 15 mins. Unfortunately, Obama is getting the media attention that he is use to. That means most networks aired Hillary’s ad, but not Obama’s response. To Obama’s credit he is still doing an outstanding job of campaigning. Even with facing the Clinton democratic machine and the republican attack machine he has managed to whittle her 20 point lead in Texas and Ohio to either dead even or she has slight lead.

Even if he does counter everything they say I don’t think it will be enough. The media from both the left and the right don’t want to see Obama win. The GOP doesn’t want him to win because he poses the greatest threat to McCain. The left leaning national media (maybe except MSNBC) is in Clintons camp. She represents business as usual and is the business folk find her comfortable and predictable.

From here on out Obama needs to attack his foes both left and right, but not appear like he is attacking. If he attacks Hillary too harshly he will be ridiculed for being a mean black guy attacking a poor defenseless white women. He attacks McCain to hard he’s attacking an old white war vet you can do know wrong. What is Obama to do?

I think he’s doing a great job of counter attacking the Clintons and McCain. However, he is going to need to get more traction. He needs to use the greatest weapon he has (besides the stump speech), the Internet. That Will I Am video spread like wild fire over the net. I think if he needs to start e-mailing as many people as possible the “truths” on Hillary and McCain. However, he needs to do it in a way that doesn’t connect his campaign to the e-mail attacks. I suggest starting a dummy e-mail account and let it fly. Start with a couple of students and make that stuff viral. It doesn’t have to be nasty. Just enough to bring the facts to light. Call both of them out.

I would follow this up with more of the same positive commercials that he has been running on TV. However, I would still take a jab or 2, and counter everything they say about me while at the same time casting even more doubt on them. I would paint McCain as a flip-flopper. This shouldn’t be to hard to do. I would also stick him with the tag of Bush 3. That also shouldn’t be that hard.

Hillary is a little bit different. I would swiftboat her quick. I would run that CNN press conference of her supporting Nafta then come right back with her at the debate denouncing it. I would also press her on those tax returns every chance I get. I would also hit her with the votes on the credit card bill that made it impossible for people to declare bankruptcy. But that’s just me.

Code Words

This is my first installment of Code Words. This is where I will give you a phrase and then break it down to its very last compound.

Code Word: Supply-side Economics.

This is a phrase that you will hear conservatives use all time when discussiong their economic philosophy. What is Supply-side economics, and what does it really mean?

According to Wikipedia Supply-side economics is is a school of macroeconomic thought that argues that economic growth can be most effectively created using incentives for people to produce (supply) goods and services, such as adjusting income tax and capital gains tax rates.

What does it all mean?

Supply-side economics is a fancy way of saying cut taxes on the wealthy and they will (should) invest in the economy and job creation. Basically, trickle-down economics. Does it work? No, not really. We had the largest exspansion of the economy under Bush. Well, that's what the numbers say. If you made over $200,000 you had a good decade. You saw your salary increase, your stock portfolio rise and the whole nine. If you made less than that. Like the other 90% of america you were screwed. Your real wages went down, and the cost of goods and services went up.

You know what? Maybe Supply-side economics worked after all.
